Capital One profit drops 42%; shares fall
SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Capital One reported late Thursday a surprise 42% drop in fourth-quarter profit as expenses grew and the bank set aside more money for loan losses. Shares fell in late trades. Profit was $407 million, or 88 cents a share, down from $697 million, or $1.52 a share, in the same 2010 period. Revenue edged down 2.5% to $4.1 billion.
